Please note the Petition below.United Four Wheel Drive AssociationFrank NoelThe Baystate Jeepers invited the United Four Wheel Drive Association to attend and support their efforts here in New England. Frank Noel and his wife Joanie flew in from their United office in Arizona to be part of the Great American Jeep Rally. They set up an awesome booth and spoke with the visitors. Frank also addressed the crowd with a wonderful speech. They came; they saw and took back a better understanding about the number of four wheelers here in the East. Four hundred Jeeps in one place, with thousands of other 4x4’s hiding in the wings, just waiting for the enjoyment of their sport to come alive again. The Noel’s also learned more about the Northeast Association’s efforts first hand and what they have been trying to accomplish with this coalition of 4x4 clubs. They also learned about how the NEA4WDC has been working on a shoe string budget to educate the public and gain legal private land to recreate on, (beyond what they learned from the Association representative, Dan Stra’ at the UFWDA convention held this past summer). Not only did United promote its own Association, but brought along material from the Blue Ribbon Coalition, both of which most clubs in the North East belong to as well as TreadLighlty. It was great having them here. Thanks, Frank & Joanie!
The Future of Four-Wheeling on State-Owned Public Lands in Massachusetts Is Decided By You!Mark DupontAs an avid 4-wheeler for almost 30 years, I’ve seen our landscape change… some by no fault of our own, most by our lack of participation in the political process that governs our lives… and our sport! What does this mean to you? To me? The present and future access to wheeling public land in Massachusetts? Well, one example in the “loss” column, is the loss of Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth MA. For those who remember — who’ve been there, it’s an area that offered hundreds of trail miles, now closed to 4-wheel drive vehicles. There are other areas in Massachusetts that provided great opportunity and challenge… they too are gone! The Northeast Association of 4-Wheel Drive Clubs (NEA4WD) Initiative!I have been working with Senator Brian Joyce in an attempt to change Massachusetts General Law (MGL) Chapter 90B, Section 25. We are attempting to amend this law by inserting language that would read: “A person shall not be unreasonably prohibited from operating a registered vehicle with gross weight of 6,500 pounds or less on a way or trail in a state park or other state property open to the general public” With this inserted, it will over-ride rules and regulations imposed by the various state agencies that restrict use of public, state-owned lands to a certain gross vehicle weight (GVW). This would effectively squash the “1000-pound rule” written by the Department of Environmental Management (DEM), as well as similar “rules” written by others in government whose express intention it is, to keep 4-wheel drive vehicles from accessing public land. Here is YOUR opportunity to make a difference! To affect change it begins with you, the taxpayer. It becomes your responsibility and that of the COLLECTIVE IN BECOMING THE VOICE OF THE COMMUNITY to get the needed changes enacted. Below, you will find a copy of the petition.
